長寿の秘密はお肌の黒子?
タイトルはThe Independentのパクリ。
ほくろが100個以上*1ある人のほうが、25個以下の人に比べてテロメア長の減少がゆっくり=加齢がゆっくりであるとの研究結果が出たそうだ。どの程度ゆっくりかというと、6〜7年相当とのこと。
日本語ではInternet Journeyで読める(ここはなくなるので一応キャッシュ。あと「テラメア」じゃねーってば。)。
King's College Londonの双子研究をやっているグループのVeronique Bataille博士が「Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention」誌に発表したものとのこと*2。
Internet Journeyでは、心臓病や骨粗鬆症などの加齢に伴う病気にかかるリスクも低いとあるが、英語の報道では
This could imply susceptibility to fewer age-related diseases such as heart disease or osteoporosis, for example. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings.(BBC)
とcouldで表現しているので、そんな確定した話でもないように思う。
なにはともあれ、Exciting (BBC)な結果ではある。
なお、BBCでは最後に専門家の注意を載せている。
Dr Kat Arney, of Cancer Research UK, said: "While this is an intriguing finding and deserves further investigation, it's important people know that having a large number of moles can increase your risk of skin cancer.
"It's especially important to enjoy the sun safely if you have lots of moles or burn easily."
ほくろが多い人は、皮膚がんのリスクが高いことは確かなので、お肌を焼くときは気をつけてね、とのことである。
