すなわち

英国王室には1917年までは姓がなかった。王朝名があったのみ。

ちなみに現在は女王なので、本来は次代から王朝名も変わるはずだけど王朝名は「Windsor」のまま維持しつつ、姓は、エジンバラ公と女王の直系を他のWindsorと区別するために、「Mountbatten-Windsor」にしているとのことである。
