ポロニウムに関する誤解

rag（take_the_rag_away）氏にご教示いただいたことと、氏がYahoo!掲示板に書かれていたことの備忘（引用が不適切であれば、ご指摘ください）。

「ポロニウムの放射能はウランの３００倍」…完全な誤りです。
比放射能はやはり、１００億倍以上が正解。

ノーベル賞ＨＰ、キュリー夫妻の紹介記事：

で、誤解の原因がようやくわかりました。

「ウランの３００倍」は、キュリー夫人がピッチブレンド（瀝青ウラン鉱）から
分離した「ビスマスを含む成分」の放射能。

At the end of June 1898, they had a substance that was about 300 times more strongly active than uranium.

これについて、原論文の記載：
"We thus believe that the substance that we have extracted from pitchblende contains a metal never known before, akin to bismuth in its analytic properties. If the existence of this new metal is confirmed, we suggest that it should be called polonium after the name of the country of origin of one of us."

「・・・分析上の特性がビスマスに類似した未知の金属を含む・・・」
「もしこの新しい金属の存在が確かめられるならば・・・」

この時点では、新しい放射性金属「ポロニウム」の含有が示唆されただけで、
単品として分離されたわけではありません。
（周期表上の位置が確定したのが1912年、純粋な金属の調製は1946年）

なんだかとってもシンプルな誤解である。こんな安易な誤解が、なんでここまで「定説」化するんだ？
